Level 5 Operations or Departmental Manager

Level 5 Operations or Departmental Manager

An Operations or Departmental Manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects, and achieving operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisations strategy. The EPA is the culmination of the Apprentice’s training programme and provides them the opportunity to demonstrate the full range of knowledge, skills and behaviours in the published standard. You can find the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education assessment plan here.

End Point Assessment

Teaching

Having completed a minimum 12 months on programme training, the apprentice will have presented a PoE and Project Proposal summary which covers the standard. Once the project proposal summary has been signed off, the apprentice will complete a post-gateway Project Proposal to present at EPA. The EPA consists of two distinct assessment methods:

  • Professional discussion, underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
  • Project proposal, presentation and questioning.
  • 01. Application

Once the Employer has decided to use Academy4PM for the EPA for their learner, the employer will be required to complete and submit the Academy4PM EPA Application Form. This will activate the EPA process and initiates the EPA for the apprentice.

  • 02. Submission

The EPA requires the submission of the PoE and Project Proposal by the apprentice to Academy4PM between 1 week and 1 month prior to the EPA date in electronic form. If the apprentice wishes to submit a full paper-based copy of the documents, 3 copies will be need to be provided. Delivery dates are agreed in advance between the employer (or their representative) and us.

  • 03. Review

The PoE and Project Proposal are reviewed by our IQA for completeness. The assessor, once selected and any identified conflicts of interest have been resolved, will review the PoE and Project Proposal during this period. Questions will be generated for the presentation and professional discussion based on these documents.

  • 04. Panel

The assessor will be an individual who demonstrates:

    • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the apprenticeship standard
    • The ability to contextualise the relevant work-based project(s)
    • Current, relevant occupational knowledge and expertise, which has been gained through “hands on” experience in the profession within the last 5 years.

The Academy4PM assessor will have the final decision on grading.

  • 05. Assessment

The Project Proposal, Presentation with Questioning will consist of a presentation by the apprentice which will last 20 minutes and questioning by an independent assessor for 40 minutes.

The Professional Discussion will consist of questions which will be generated based on the PoE. The professional discussion will last for around 60 minutes.

Academy4PM End Point Assessment Process

Final Outcome

Once the lead Assessor has concluded the Apprentices Presentation and questioning, the Assessor Panel will review and finalise their marks and provide the Academy4PM with an overall grading recommendation. To achieve a pass overall, the apprentice must achieve all the pass criteria in all assessment methods. To achieve a distinction overall, the apprentice must achieve all the pass criteria and all the distinction criteria in all assessment methods.

Re-Assessment

Apprentices who fail one or more assessment method will be offered the opportunity to take a re-sit or a re-take. A re-sit does not require further learning, whereas a re-take does. Apprentices should have a supportive action plan to prepare for the re-sit or a re-take. The apprentice’s employer will need to agree that either a re-sit or re-take is an appropriate course of action. An apprentice who fails an assessment method, and therefore the EPA in the first instance, will be required to re-sit or re-take any failed assessment methods only.
